Younc Culture Teatris

The national theatre event for the young, Teatris, will take place in Helsinki 24.–26.5.2013

Teatris 2013 is organized by Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen youth and culture departments. Event theme is “See-Hear-Tell! “. The young are encouraged to come to Helsinki to present and share their own stories. The artistic leaders of the event will be actress Jaana Saarinen and Mika Myllyaho, head of Suomen Kansallisteatteri (Finnish National Theatre). Teatris 2013 is nationally coordinated by Nuori Kulttuuri –säätiö (Young Culture Association).

Categories

Teatris 2013 categories are spoken theatre, dance theatre, musical, street theatre and other forms of theatre. A group may participate only with one performance, street theatre providing an exeption to the rule, as street theatre participants are allowed to sign into other categories as well. Teatris is aimed for beginners and those practicing theatre as a hobby. Students in professional theatre schools are not allowed to participate.

Rules and limitations

Participants are divided into two age groups: 10–15 and 16–25-year olds. The length of plays should be between 15 and 60 minutes. Teatris is for groups only, no solo performances are allowed. One third of performers in a play may differ from the given age group.

First level of Teatris consists of regional events around Finland. The plays advancing to second level on Helsinki National Theatre stage will be selected by regional event juries. Regional events will have to be organized by the end of March 2013.

Free from discrimination

Teatris 2013 is an event free from discrimination. All young artists are allowed to participate, regardless of their sexual identity or physical disabilities.
